1694, New England stood at a crossroads.
War had scarred the colonies. The Salem witch trials had ended only two years earlier. Fear of strangers, foreign powers, and religious division festered in every village. Plymouth was a community determined to preserve its order—but uncertain whom it could trust.
Into that strict and ordered world came a shipwrecked French physician known only as LeBaron.
Found unconscious after the shipwreck of an enemy French privateer, he refused to reveal his true name or the life he had left behind. Even his own crew didnt know his name or background. While his shipmates were sent to Boston for trial, LeBaron, ill, remained in Plymouth to recover. His remarkable skill as a physician earned both admiration and suspicion.
As rumors spread and loyalties were tested, LeBaron found himself caught between acceptance and rejection, love and fear, faith and conscience. The longer he remained, the more one question echoed throughout the colony:
